First, we watched this video clip to review last classes lesson on Earth’s history.

Then, we collected data on variation in sunflower seeds. Next class we will build a histogram.

Today, we collected data on variation in sunflower seeds: We then constructed a histogram using class data and discovered that the Bell Curve is the most frequent distribution for traits.

We then read about Types of Natural Selection and completed the problems at end of the reading. The Exit Ticket was to answer questions 6 and 7 from the Seed Size and Evolution activity.

Exit Ticket:

6. A new species of birds is introduced to the area. The bird has a small beak and is unable to eat seeds larger than 17 mm long. Predict how this new predator might affect the distribution of seed size. How would this effect cause natural selection to occur?

7. In this experiment, how are variation and evolution dependent on each other?
